GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE CAKE

Wet Mix

  • 1 C Sugar
  • 1/2 C Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 C Hot Water
  • 2 Heaping TBS Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 C Cold Water
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Dry Mix

  • 1 1/2 C Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Baking Power
  • Pinch of Salt

Icing

  • 1 1/2 C Icing Sugar
  • 2-3 TBS Cocoa Powder
  • Rounded TBS Butter/Margarine
  • 1-2 TBS Milk

Directions

  1. With beaters, cream sugar and butter together.
  2. Separate eggs from yolks. Add yolks to wet mix.
  3. Beat whites separately with a pinch of salt and set aside.
  4. Dissolve cocoa in hot water, add to wet mix, then add cold water and vanilla.
  1. Mix dry ingredients. Add to wet mix and beat then fold in egg whites.
  2. Bake at 350 F for 30 min.
  3. To make icing: mix cocoa and icing sugar. Cut butter into mix, add milk and blend til smooth. Allow cake to cool before icing.
