Ingredients
- 6-8 Potatoes*
- Vegetable Oil
- Salt and Pepper
- Optional Garnishes:
- Green Onions
- Sour Cream
- Vegetarian Gravy*
- Shredded Cheese
- Chili
*Use whatever kind of potatoes you most enjoy, just do your best to ensure they are of uniform size. If you'd like to make a fast and easy poutine, most of the instant gravy packets you can buy are actually vegan.
Directions
- Wash potatoes and peel them (if desired). Cut into fries, as close to uniform size as possible. Place fries in large bowl and cover with water. Let sit 20-30 min then drain. If you want to change the water part way through it will help draw out the starch.
- Line a baking sheet with several layers of paper or kitchen towels and lay fries across it, spacing them apart. You may need to do a couple layers or use a second baking sheet. Cover with more towels and leave fries to dry out a bit, about 10-20 min.
- Dry the large bowl you soaked the fries in and return them to it. Add enough vegetable oil to coat them and mix well.
- Line baking sheet(s) with parchment paper and spread fries out across it. A bit of space between them helps them cook a bit better but even if they're a bit crowded they will still be great.
- Bake at 400 F turning part-way through until fries are desired crispiness, usually around an hour or so, depending on their size.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. If using cheese, sprinkle it on top in the last few minutes of baking.
- Garnish with green onions and sour cream and enjoy! I like to put the sour cream in a squirt bottle.
- To make chili cheese fries, heat leftover chili* (just don't add the cashews) and spread over cooked fries then top with shredded cheese.
