Ingredients
- 1/2 C Warm Water
- 2 tsp Instant Yeast
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 3 TBSP Olive Oil
- 1/4 C Plain Yogurt*
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 1/2-3 C All Purpose Flour
- 2 TBSP Melted Butter
- 2 tsp Garlic, Minced (Optional)
*You can also use sour cream instead of yoghurt.
Directions
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl; let sit for five min or till bubbly.
- Add olive oil, yogurt, egg, salt and 2 cups of flour. Stir till smooth.
- Add more flour, just enough to make a soft dough. Knead a few times on a floured counter until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled. This should take about 30 min.
- Preheat a frying pan to med-high heat. It might seem to soon but you want to get it very hot.
- Cut dough into eight pieces. On a floured surface, roll out each piece into a 6" circle (or oval, if you prefer) and dust lightly with flour.
- You can use oil or non-stick spray in your frying pan if you want but as long as the raw naan is lightly floured and your pan is non-stick it should be fine without it. Cook each piece for 2-3 min or until bubbly on top and golden brown on the bottom. Flip and cook for another 2-3 min.
- Brush the top (the bubbly side) of each naan with melted butter. Optional step: add garlic to the butter first.
