NAAN BREAD

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C Warm Water
  • 2 tsp Instant Yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 3 TBSP Olive Oil
  • 1/4 C Plain Yogurt*
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 1/2-3 C All Purpose Flour
  • 2 TBSP Melted Butter
  • 2 tsp Garlic, Minced (Optional)
*You can also use sour cream instead of yoghurt.

Directions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl; let sit for five min or till bubbly.
  2. Add olive oil, yogurt, egg, salt and 2 cups of flour. Stir till smooth.
  3. Add more flour, just enough to make a soft dough. Knead a few times on a floured counter until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled. This should take about 30 min.
  5. Preheat a frying pan to med-high heat. It might seem to soon but you want to get it very hot.
  1. Cut dough into eight pieces. On a floured surface, roll out each piece into a 6" circle (or oval, if you prefer) and dust lightly with flour.
  2. You can use oil or non-stick spray in your frying pan if you want but as long as the raw naan is lightly floured and your pan is non-stick it should be fine without it. Cook each piece for 2-3 min or until bubbly on top and golden brown on the bottom. Flip and cook for another 2-3 min.
  3. Brush the top (the bubbly side) of each naan with melted butter. Optional step: add garlic to the butter first.
